Duration: 1989–2002

The research project compiled the “Complete Catalog of Greek Papyrus Documents from Egypt,” an electronic database containing information—including the date of creation, exact provenance, availability of images, and content—of all documentary papyri and ostraca from Egypt published to date.

The database (external link) can be accessed directly via the Internet in its most up-to-date version. It also contains links to other websites where information on the relevant texts can be found, thereby serving as a hub for online activities in the field of papyrology.

A second project—namely, the edition of the approximately 500 Greek ostraca from the Heidelberg Papyrus Collection, most of which date from the region around Thebes (2nd–3rd centuries CE) and consist primarily of tax receipts and similar texts of interest to the economic history of Egypt, was completed before the center closed.
