How can we successfully live together in a pluralistic, migration-shaped society? This conference focuses on the concept of conviviality—the lived practice of respectful and solidarity-based coexistence—and its significance as a task of religious education, both historically and in the present. Drawing on perspectives from migration studies, theology, philosophy, and the educational and social sciences, the conference will explore how to move beyond exclusion and mere tolerance toward affirmative conviviality, and examine the role played by the Christian commandment of love and interreligious ethical traditions in this process. Historical analyses, systematic reflections, and empirical studies on current migration discourses will be brought together to clarify how the values and practices of conviviality promote social cohesion. The goal of this event is to develop ideas for a society based on solidarity in culturally diverse societies and to reposition conviviality as a central resource for education and orientation.
