Duration: 1959–1987 (Collection of Antiquities/Corps Vasorum Antiquorum), 1988–2003 (Collection of Antiquities)

The research project was tasked with making the collection of ancient original works of art and crafts in the Museum of Antiquities at the University of Heidelberg’s Archaeological Institute accessible to researchers through scholarly catalogs. Founded in 1848, the Collection of Antiquities today possesses one of the largest archaeological teaching collections at German universities.

The most significant groups of artifacts included works from the ancient cultures of the Mediterranean region, primarily Greece and Italy: painted pottery; statuettes, reliefs, and architectural fragments made of terracotta and stone; bronze figurines, vessels, and tools; fragments of wall paintings; clay lamps; and coins.
