Lutz Gade

Secretary of the Mathematics and Natural Sciences Class

Lutz H. Gade has held the Chair of Inorganic Chemistry at Heidelberg University since 2003. After completing his studies in chemistry at the University of Bonn and the Technical University of Munich, he went to Cambridge to work as a doctoral student under Jack Lewis. Following his doctorate in 1991, he moved to the University of Würzburg, where he completed his habilitation in 1996 and continued his research as a private lecturer for two more years. In 1998, he was appointed to a chair in Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Strasbourg, where he served as director of the Laboratory of Organometallic Chemistry and Catalysis. He has been a member of the Institut Universitaire de France since 2000.

In Heidelberg, he served as dean of the Joint Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, acted as spokesperson for the Collaborative Research Center “Molecular Catalysis” (SFB 623), and initiated the Collaborative Research Center “N-Heteropolycycles as Functional Materials” (SFB 1249), of which he is the founding spokesperson. His work in the fields of organometallic chemistry and homogeneous catalysis has received numerous national and international awards. He has been a member of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities since 2012 Academy of Sciences and Humanities a corresponding member of Academy of Sciences and Humanities Literature Mainz since 2019.
