Volker Wulfmeyer Takes Over as Chair of the GLASS Project
Academy member Volker Wulfmeyer has become the first German to serve as co-chair of the GEWEX (Global Energy and Water Exchanges Project) committee for Land-Atmosphere System Studies (GLASS).
The general role of the Co-Chair is to assist in the coordination and management of proposed collaborative projects within GLASS from both scientific and logistical perspectives, as well as to organize and participate in various GEWEX-related meetings and conferences as needed. As an experienced scientist, Volker Wulfmeyer is also expected to actively contribute to GLASS projects and initiatives.
The term of office for the Co-Chair is four years and runs until August 1, 2029, with two years overlapping with the current Co-Chair, Nathaniel Chaney, and two years with a new Co-Chair.
Prof. Dr. Volker Wulfmeyer(external link) heads the Institute of Physics and Meteorology at the University of Hohenheim(external link) in Stuttgart, where his research focuses on modeling regional climate change, the feedback effects of changing vegetation on the climate, and improving the prediction of extreme weather events. He has been a committed advocate for climate protection for many years.
