Academy Day 2023
“What Is Justice? – A Global Comparison of Concepts of Justice”
Academy Day is the major annual joint event organized by the scientific academies that make up the Union of German Academies of Sciences and Humanities. The Academy of Sciences and Humanities Hamburg and the Lower Saxony Academy of Sciences and Humanities Göttingen are responsible for the program of Academy Day 2023 in Berlin. The theme of this year’s event is: “What Is Justice? – Concepts of Justice in a Global Comparison.”
The concept of justice has experienced an unprecedented resurgence in recent decades, not only in philosophy but also in social discourse. Demands for justice permeate nearly all major areas of social debate, and sector-specific ideals of justice—such as social justice, intergenerational justice, and climate justice—highlight significant challenges to current structures of action and social orders.
The day’s program is divided into four panels. The topics to be discussed arejustice and climate, justice—education and culture, justice—borders and migration, andhistorical justice and cultural heritage.
The evening gala is dedicated to the themeof justice and human rights.
