“From ‘Moin’ to ‘Meme’: Language Shapes Society”—under this title, the German Academies of Sciences and Humanities are hosting a diverse program in Göttingen on September 8.

Language permeates our lives: It shapes our perception of reality, influences our actions, and sometimes even constructs our reality. At the same time, it reflects and underpins our identity—both that of the individual and that of society as a whole. For community is not possible without language.
