Matthias Ohm presents medals from the Heidelberg Academy

Founded in 1909, the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities itself as continuing the tradition of the Electoral Palatinate Academy, which existed in Mannheim from 1763 to 1803. This lineage is also evident in the medals of the Heidelberg Academy, which incorporate texts and images from the Mannheim Academy’s mintings. Dr. Matthias Ohm, director of the Coin Cabinet at the Württemberg State Museum, will present two 18th-century Kurpfalz coins, a plaque honoring Heinrich Lanz, the founder of the Heidelberg Academy, and the Academy’s anniversary medal during his “Kulturkaffee” event on March 6.

The “Kulturkaffee” series features a 30-minute short talk followed by coffee and cake at the cozy Café Dürnitz in Stuttgart’s Old Palace.
