WRITING LAW IN MULTILINGUAL ROMANIA (12th–14th Centuries)
International symposium organized by Viola Mariotti (ALMA) as part of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences’ initiative to support female postdoctoral researchers.
Straddling the revival of Roman law and the development of customary law, this conference aims to examine the trajectories of the codification of medieval legal matters. Through the lens of various vernacular languages, with a particular focus on the Gallo-Roman region and Sardinia, the conference will cover a broad chronological span, from the 12th to the 14th century. The codification of law will be examined with a priority on the historical, philological, and linguistic analysis of legal texts, without neglecting literary texts (particularly those of the troubadours) or iconographic representations.
