Robert Schlögl: "No Energy Transition Without Hydrogen—Scope and Challenges".
Academy Lecture 2023
The energy transition is currently at a crossroads, both in terms of its structure and the involvement of those affected. This is due, on the one hand, to a contradictory technical and regulatory framework and, on the other hand, to completely unrealistic goals and expectations. Drawing on scientific and technical realities, this presentation will propose a new direction for the energy transition.
Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Robert Schlögl (external link) is President of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and Vice President of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. From 1994 to 2023, he served as Director of the Fritz Haber Institute of the MPG in Berlin, and from 2011 to 2022 as Founding Director and Executive Director of the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion in Mülheim an der Ruhr. His research focuses on inorganic chemistry, heterogeneous catalysis, nanostructures, materials research for chemical energy conversion, and concepts for sustainable energy supply and storage.
The Heidelberg Academy Lecture was established in 2009 by the Association for the Promotion of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities .V. to mark the Academy’s 100th anniversary and has been held annually ever since. World-renowned scholars are invited to Heidelberg to deliver a public lecture in their field of expertise. This year, the Academy Lecture is being funded by the Schmeil Foundation through the Association.
