Karl JaspersPrize

The Prize generally awarded every three years for an outstanding scholarly work imbued with a philosophical spirit. The scholarly significance of the work should transcend the boundaries of a single discipline in the humanities or psychiatry in favor of interdisciplinary understanding.

The Prize worth 25,000 euros.

The prize sponsors

The Prize established in 1983 by the City of Heidelberg(external link) and Heidelberg University(external link) to mark the 100th birthday of the Heidelberg philosopher Karl Jaspers. Since 2013, the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities has been Academy of Sciences and Humanities co-sponsor of the Prize.

The award ceremony

The selection committee for thePrize the leadership of Heidelberg University (chair), two individuals to be elected by the City Council, a member of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, a representative of the Max Planck Institutes based in Heidelberg, the leadership of the Heidelberg College of Jewish Studies, and the chairperson of the Karl Jaspers Foundation in Basel.
