Research Projects in Academies' Programme

The joint research program of the German Academies of Sciences and Humanities serves to develop, preserve, and research our cultural heritage.

The Academies' Programme Germany's largest research programme in the humanities and social sciences and enjoys an outstanding international reputation. Through its long-term basic research projects, it makes a significant contribution to the cataloging, preservation, and scholarly analysis of key sources and artifacts of cultural heritage.

Editions, dictionaries, and text corpora serve as enduring knowledge resources of high academic value, which are increasingly being made available to researchers and the general public in digital form as well.

Global Basic Lexicon (GloBasLex)


Das Projekt Global Basic Lexicon (GloBasLex) erfasst und dokumentiert Grundwortschätze der Sprachen der Welt auf der Grundlage publizierter Wörterbücher. Ziel ist der Aufbau einer frei zugänglichen Datenbank paralleler Wortlisten für 1.000 Grundkonzepte, die nahezu alle hinreichend dokumentierten Sprachen weltweit abdeckt. Mit rund 1.500 Sprachen von allen Kontinenten entsteht eine der umfassendsten Ressourcen dieser Art.

In order to reveal and appreciate the broad context of Jaspers' thinking, as it emerges from his published works, his estate, and his numerous correspondences, a complete edition of his works is being compiled, which will make all relevant texts accessible in their context and available as a systematically interconnected whole.

Commentary on fragments of Greek comedy (KomFrag)


The aim of the commentaries is, on the one hand, to elucidate the texts, which are generally difficult to understand, from all possible perspectives and, on the other hand, where possible, to attempt a reconstruction of the plays and to classify the authors in terms of literary history.

The task of the research center, which was established in 2005, is to compile a complete and systematic documentation of these stone inscriptions, some of which have only been rediscovered in recent years.

Melanchthon Correspondence (MBW)


The humanist Philipp Melanchthon was Luther’s most important and closest collaborator in the introduction of the Reformation. His approximately 9,800 surviving letters are fundamental to the study of early modern history.

Die Koordination des Akademienprogramms erfolgt durch die Akademienunion, den Zusammenschluss von acht deutschen Wissenschaftsakademien mit Standorten in Berlin, Düsseldorf, Göttingen, Hamburg, Heidelberg, Leipzig, Mainz und München. In dieser Funktion bündelt die Akademienunion die gemeinsame Arbeit der Akademien und begleitet die Vorhaben des Akademienprogramms organisatorisch und wissenschaftlich. Im Rahmen des Akademienprogramms arbeiten aktuell rund 900 Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter in 130 Vorhaben an 198 Arbeitsstellen.
